Here at Buckden Dental Clinic we practice “prevention is better than cure”. We have a fully dedicated team of dentists, hygiene therapists and oral hygiene instructors who all play a part in our patient’s dental care.
Clean teeth not only make you look and feel good, they also ensure fresh breath, help you feel confident, give you a brighter smile and are a vital part of maintaining healthy oral hygiene.
Good oral hygiene is the key to good dental health and vital in eliminating gum disease and decay which can eventually lead to tooth loss. Maintaining a good dental hygiene regime at home is essential to helping prevent the build-up of plaque and tartar. However, some parts of the mouth are difficult if not impossible to reach and regular dental hygiene treatment is vital to prevent cavities, gingivitis, and gum disease.
The hygienist’s main role is to prevent gum disease by professionally cleaning your teeth, a process called scaling and polishing. They carefully remove any build-up of plaque or hard deposits of calculus below and above the gum using manual or ultrasonic instruments.
Our hygienists can also perform fluoride applications and fissure sealants within their scope of practice.
They have undergone dental laser training which means they can use dental lasers to kill the bacteria hiding in deep gum pockets where you cannot reach with your toothbrush at home. We use the lasers externally on your jaw joints where the heat produced helps ease soreness of the TMJ (temporomandibular joint) caused by clenching, grinding or opening the mouth for longer period of time.
We offer our patients Airflow treatment which gently removes and plaque and calculus with a jet of water and powder. For more information on our Airflow treatments click here.
You don’t need to be a registered patient of ours to take advantage of our hygiene and Airflow treatments as our dental hygiene therapists can work without the prescription of a dentist.
