Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is a cosmetic treatment solution for filling gaps or minor chips in teeth. Composite bonding can also be used to mask discoloured teeth.

A composite resin is attached to a tooth and shaped to restore its original appearance. The colour of the resin is matched to your teeth, so it will appear as though it is a natural part of the tooth.

Composite bonding can help you achieve a smile you’re happier with as an alternative non-invasive treatment option to porcelain crowns and veers or even teeth-straightening braces.

Who Can Benefit from Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is used for the treatment of following dental problems:

  • Chipping of teeth
  • Cosmetic correction of teeth stains
  • Restoration of teeth with congenital defects
  • Improving the shape and appearance of anterior teeth

How is Composite Bonding Carried Out?

Your dentist will start your treatment by taking records of your current teeth with an intra-oral scan. This scan will then go to the dental laboratory for a ‘mock-up’. This is where a model of your current teeth will be created with the composite bonding in wax so you can see the proposed results of the treatment beforehand.

Your dentist will then discuss the proposed wax model with you in person and discuss if you would like any changes made. This model is used to make a ‘stent’

Your dentist will start by choosing a composite resin colour that matches your tooth best for a natural-looking result.

Many patients prefer to have their teeth whitening before the composite bonding so a lighter shade of resin can be matched.

Your dentist will then use the ‘stent’ to add white filling material to your teeth and recreate the result from your tooth model. The composite resin is hardened with a UV light before being shaped again and polished.

What are the Benefits of Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is a great alternative option to veneers or crowns. Veneers and crowns will require removal of some of your existing tooth structure. Composite bonding, is white filling material placed over your exiting teeth, so no drilling required.

Composite Bonding is a quick, less expensive and non-invasive procedure, and it can be easily repaired if damaged or broken with more white filling material.
